Merlin College Links with Foroige

Coláiste Mhuirlinne/Merlin College liaises with Foroige to provide many programmes for our school. Many of these programmes have pastoral links. Foroige operate Eastside Youth Service which is a youth development project for young people aged 10-18 years. Please see below some of the programmes we work together on for student support:

  • Wilderness Programme (Teenage Forest Group): The Forest Schools programme provides opportunities for young people to learn valuable life skills within a safe, positive and healthy outdoor environment. It is a personal development programme for adolescents, focused on developing social, emotional and leadership skills. Placing great emphasis on the promotion of positive mental health, the programme is designed to help young people build self-confidence and self-awareness through a range of fun, creative and educational interactive activities, games and challenges. The programme lasts 6-10 weeks.
  • Foroige Leadership Programme: This is a Transition Year Programme which involves 15 hours of group work in the Leadership programme and an additional hour a week by students in their own time working on their own reflections and thoughts on taking part in the programme.

Some of the topics in the programme are leadership styles, communication, teamwork, self-awareness and values, global visions and community and personal goal setting and action plans.
