Athletics

Merlin College has a very vibrant and successful Athletics Team. Our athletes excel not just at county level but also on the National Stage. In 2022 Our u17 Boys won the All Ireland u17 4 x100 metres Relay making them the fastest team in the whole of Ireland. In 2023 the same team moved up to u19 and claimed silver in the All Ireland Final. This team are great ambassadors for the school and our younger students are eager to emulate their achievements through their dedication to training.

Although our focus is on the social and physical benefits of running, it is great to see some of our pupils compete and win medals at the highest level in schools competitions. Many of our students have joined their local athletics club and have made their mark in Irish Athletics competing at the highest level and bringing national success medals home to the Doughiska, Ardan area.

Our team train two mornings per week at 8am before school. It is a great way to start your school day - going for a run with your school mates while keeping fit and healthy. We have students taking part in every schools athletics competition throughout the year. Our team has grown in numbers and gone from strength to strength throughout the years. Our toughest runners are our cross county competitors who compete in mucky, cold conditions in January. We look forward to seeing you in Merlin and joining our Athletics Team.
