Prefects 2020/2021
Our prefects in Merlin College have a very important role, Each prefect is a student leader Prefects will be asked to report to management any concerns or issues they come across in school life which they see as inappropriate. Prefects may also be called upon to help out in any way they can in the running of school events.
Cairde 2020/2021
The Cairde initiative was established in Merlin College as a buddy system for 1st year students in 2019. In 2020/2021 we will continue to develop our Cairde practices. Merlin College recognises that the transition from primary to secondary school can be challenging for many students and the transition for our current first year students was most difficult due to COVID 19. In previous years the Cairde linked with 1st years on a regular basis to mentor/ guide them. This year we will adopt practices so that the Cairde will continue to deliver this leadership support.

Cairde 2019/2020
The Cairde initiative was established in Merlin College as a buddy system for 1st year students in 2019. Merlin College recognises that the transition from primary to secondary school can be challenging for many students. The Cairde links with the 1st years on a regular basis to mentor/ guide them and to overall have some friendly faces for them on the corridors.
The Cairde were grouped in teams and were linked with a class group each. The Cairde had a meeting with the link teacher weekly to plan activities for the week ahead. It is an amazing initiative for 1st years and TYs alike strengthening the school community and student leadership overall.
Some of the activities/initiatives the Cairde organised:
· Journal checks each week (points system)
· Team bonding day
· Helped to organise lockers
· Lunch time check ins weekly
· Address assemblies with different announcements / tips / advice
· End of year colour run (postponed in 2020)
· Helped out at events such as musical / charity quiz
